Tilapia Shortage Looms!
Tilapia may be in much short supply as the busy buying season begins - and a crisis in China
is to blame. Because of chemicals found in the Tilapia processing, more than 50 plants in the
Fujian and Guangdong provinces have been subjected to a government ban on Tilapia fillet exports
Sources tell us that the use of antibiotics or malachite green (MG) before processing may be
the main reason fro the ban, which imposed by the Chinese government's Customs. Inspection and
Quarantine (CIQ) office and is expected to last until at least October. MG, a toxic synthetic
dye that's also often used as an antifungal treatment of fish, has been used in aquaculture
facilities raising eels - farms that are later used to raise Tilapia. Farms in Fujian and
Guangdong have been among those known to se this chemical, our sources say.
This news, however, has absolutely no effect on western Edge Seafood's operations. Our Tilapia
farms, located on the pristine south China island of Hainan, are completely insulated
from the volatile processing conditions of the mainland's southeastern provinces. And,
in the ultra-clean waters of our Hainan farms, absolutely no MG dye has ever been used.
What's more, we pride ourselves on the fact that the Tilapia fish we sell are 100% natural -
with no chemicals or hormones added at any stage before or during the harvest cycle.
We also go to great lengths to ensure a fresh water supply during each grow out at our farms. This
helps to keep our Tilapia free of harmful agents and diseases that have threatened
fish supplies in other regions.
You can rest assure knowing that: western Edge Seafood offers the most consistent supply of high-quality,
all-natural Tilapia - and at a surprisingly low price We can do this because we've set up
